Diet and Weightloss ArticlesBusting the Myths of Fitness
With a topic as commonly talked about as fitness, it's not surprising anymore that a lot of myths and gossips about losing weight have risen over the years. Some of these myths have already been taken by most people as facts, although scientific evidence will show you the contrary. It might take a very long while before these myths are erased, but let's try to help by stating some myths here.
Probably the most famous myth concerning diet and fitness is the issue of cardio and strength exercises. It has long been claimed that cardio exercises help you lose more weight than it would be if you opted for a strength exercise instead. Strength exercises like weight lifting have been shown by numerous studies to be more effective at burning calories than, say, running a marathon. Another popular myth is the idea of crunches as an effective exercise to get the abs that you want. Actually, if you will look at it, crunches only mimic the position that you get when you are sitting upright. Surface muscles may get into the abs, but not the ones underneath, and these are also essential in getting a flat stomach. If you really want to get some abs, moves like the plank and the side plan are more effective. Then there's also the issue of right timing. Many people say that mornings are the best time to exercise. While I personally prefer to exercise during the same time of the day, this myth is just a myth. The best time of the day to exercise is actually in the late afternoon because muscle strength and temperature allow you to burn more calories for the same amount of effort. Can't get enough of these fitness myths? Then check out this list from Yahoo! to find out more. There are also some stories that were once thought to be myths but are actually true. Just read on to give yourself a more scientific view on things. You can talk about...
